“6 Simple Words”
I love to read and one of my favorite authors is Dean Koontz. If you’ve ever read one of his novels, you wouldn’t expect to find words that would be useful in your daily walk with God. I sure didn’t, until now. The main character in the book “Odd Apocalypse” starts every day with a morning prayer. It’s a simple prayer of just 6 words, “Spare me, so I may serve.” In that moment it hit me! Shouldn’t that be how I start every morning too? The Bible talks a lot about serving others. Two of my favorite verses are Galatians 5:13-14 and 1 Peter 4:10-11. Sometimes we think in serving others we might have to sacrifice something that is important to us. In Mark 10:45 we are reminded “for even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom.” Jesus gave the ultimate sacrifice to serve me so why should I be unwilling to do the same for someone else? So thank you, Odd Thomas, for reminding me to take every opportunity to serve others, because in that moment they just might see Jesus through me. – By Karen Chappell
