The life of Olympian and WWII veteran, Louis Zamperini is described in three words- Survivor, Resilient and Redeemed by author, Laura Hillenbrand in her novel, Unbroken. The former Olympic runner was defined as a SURVIVOR when his plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean. He and another crew mate survived 47 days adrift on a raft fighting off sharks, severe sunburn, starvation and dehydration.  One night, He cried out to the Lord in despair, “If you save me, I will give my life to you!” RESILENCE was evident when he was a POW and carried on despite severe torture, treacherous living conditions, starvation, and lost his dignity. Like so many veterans, Louie battled PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). He had nightmares, turned to alcohol and ran to escape the pain. He was enraged and sought revenge on his abuser. It wasn’t until Louie attended a Billy Graham Crusade that he gave his life to Christ and was REDEEMED. He remembered his promise to God long ago while lost at sea. As snapshots of his life flashed before him, Louie saw the hand of God, always sparing his life and giving him just enough. The most REMARKABLE part of his story is that despite all of his BROKENESS he was healed and received an overwhelming joy and peace when he gave his life to Christ. Let the light of Christ push away the clouds of darkness in your life.  He is the answer—a ray of hope.  “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him.” (Romans 15:13)- Melissa Lundy
