Today is a day when the ultimate sacrifice was made on our behalf. For Lent, some of us may have ‘sacrificed’ by giving up a certain thing in our lives like maybe drinking coffee, drinking soda, or something else that has become a part of our everyday lives. But how many of us truly know what it means to sacrifice? A sacrifice such as Abraham faced when he was told to sacrifice his son Isaac to the Lord or what the disciples faced when they had to choose to give up the life they knew to follow Jesus Christ. When God made the sacrifice to send his only son to the cross, he was essentially creating a new slate for all of us. We no longer need to ‘sacrifice’ the blood of animals or other Old Testament offerings to prove our faith and obedience to God. However, we may be called to make sacrifices to follow Him such as turning away from old friends, leaving a comfortable financial situation to follow His calling, or turning away from an addiction. Because of His sacrifice, we are made new and called to lead lives that give God all the honor and glory. Praise be to God forever and ever. Amen. 😉
