Friends, how many of us know that there are codes according to which we are to operate in certain situations based upon fairness and justice? I am not meaning to be argumentative; however, there are some situations that are not meant to be according to a code of fairness and justice. Love might be the greatest example of what should not operate according to a code. Throughout Jesus’ ministry, the religious leaders were always reminding Him what the laws were that governed behaviors within the first century culture. Jesus, not trying to dissolve the law or code that was being strictly enforced, clearly taught that a new commandment was intended to be more embracing and asked for greater equality, mercy and grace. Fast forward to today within relationships and the code that often says, “I will do for you, if and when you do for me.” True Christlike love is not according to code, but is now based on you and I expressing love first, regardless of what a person’s attitude or response might be. Read carefully these words from Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us”. This week, love in a way that people do not deserve and how God, through Jesus Christ, loved you. Stay Close to Jesus. -Pastor Bryce
