Genesis 29:15-35 (NIV)
Sensuality, as other idols, can be a good thing (i.e. affection/romance), but it becomes a counterfeit God when its demands on us exceed proper boundaries. In our scripture today, Rachel has become Jacob’s idol — his ultimate romantic desire. Why? Because Jacob’s life was empty! The truth is, when we don’t find our worth in Jesus, we will turn to anything that we think will fill the void in our lives. We look to sensuality to give us transcendence and a sense of meaning that we would otherwise get from faith in God. No one person, not even the best one, can give our souls what they need. Life circumstances had stolen Leah’s life, but when she finally gave her heart to the Lord, she got her life back! Only when our hearts become so deeply moved by the sight of God’s love for us, will it detach our hearts from other would-be saviors. God Loves Ya 😉
