Acts 5:1-11

In today’s society, donating and being charitable is a much publicized thing. If you think about it, you can probably name one celebrity or athlete that has made a large donation or contribution to a noted charity. For example, Ellen Degeneres was recently nominated as ‘People’s Choice’ humanitarian of the year and donated the associated prize to St. Jude’s. While this is important and brings light to many charities and causes within the world, God does not want us to do things to bring recognition upon ourselves, not saying that is everyone’s intent.  In our story in scripture today, Ananias and Sapphira were trying to be like Barnabas and wanted to look good in the eyes of their people. However, they both fell short when confronted by Peter. They had kept some of the proceeds to themselves while telling everyone that they had donated all of the proceeds to the disciples. When we seek to do a good deed, may our heart be in the right place and not for bringing us our own personal glory, but to bring glory to the almighty King.  God is Good;)
