Romans 5:1-11
Did you ever hear the saying “The ball’s in your court”? Meaning it is your turn to do something or to respond to something. When you become a Christian, many think that the ball is now in their court and they have to respond. In a sense, that is true. There are ways we need to respond: i.e. believe in Him, trust Him, live by faith. However, we cannot get caught up in a self-performance of repaying Him for what He did for us. Fortunately God teaches us throughout scripture that we are totally freed from this highly responsible, performance mind-set so that we can see God and enjoy a deep relationship with him. There is a difference between independently trying to perform for God versus depending on God and relying on him to live through you. We do not mature into independence from God. We mature only by remaining dependent upon him, and that’s the way he wants it. He wants you to enjoy the freedom and love of being in relationship with him, trusting him, and depending upon him. He is not expecting you to perform for him. God has not set up your relationship with him as contingent upon you, but rather contingent upon himself. God loves Ya;)
