Matthew 5:43-48
Probably one of the toughest commandments for us as Christians to obey is the dreaded “pray for your enemies”. Who wants to do that? Then we read in Hebrews 7:25, “Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.” If Jesus can intercede for a sinner like me, than I can certainly pray for someone that has sinned against me. The famous World War II pastor and martyr Dietrich Bonhoeffer addresses this issue best; “I can no longer condemn or hate other Christians for whom I pray, no matter how much trouble they cause me. In intercessory prayer the face that may have been strange and intolerable to me is transformed into the face of one for whom Christ died, the face of a pardoned sinner.” Pray for your enemies for we are all children of God.
