“You are the salt of the earth.” (Matthew 5:13) What does that mean and how can we be salty? There are many uses for salt. The first thing that comes to mind is that salt is tasty. It adds flavor to our food, just like the word of God adds flavor to our lives. Imagine what life would be like without Christ. We would miss out on His blessings, His provisions and all the joys. Salt preserves food. Before refrigerators, people had to put salt on their meat to keep it from spoiling. When we teach and share God’s word with others, they learn their life can be preserved with eternal life. Salt melts ice. Therefore, Christ can heal hurt and melt our hearts. Salt acts as a medicine and removes the bacteria from an open wound. In the same way, salt removes the sin (bacteria) in our lives. Salt is powerful because it makes objects in water float. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13). Salt makes us thirsty. The more salt we eat, the thirstier we get. People will notice something different, be curious and thirst for more knowledge about how we live when we are salty. Lastly, it is important to shake the salt, but not too much because anything too salty is not enjoyable. Just be you. Please pass the salt. – Melissa Lundy
