Every night before going to bed, I check on each of my three children by opening their bedroom doors to make sure they are fast asleep. It is in those moments, I am able to breathe a sigh of relief knowing they are okay and are sleeping peacefully. As a mom, it can be overwhelming at times when I think about the concerns that weigh on them everyday.  On this particular night, I reflect on the conversations I had with my children earlier that day. My oldest daughter feels discouraged by her performance at basketball practice. She is learning it takes hard work and discipline to be an athlete. My son wants to know why a friend from school doesn’t go to church.  And my youngest daughter is brainstorming ideas about her upcoming birthday. These concerns may seem minor, but they are personal and they are real. All of us have personal needs that can consume us, causing us to lose sleep.  We may think they are too small of a need to bring before God and we don’t want to bother Him. But, God is in the small stuff. We see Him in the little things…a smile, an answered prayer, or a sunset. Before resting your head tonight, share your concerns with God; no matter how big or small. “When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.” (Proverbs 3:24) May you breathe a sigh of relief and sleep peacefully tonight knowing your Heavenly Father is always at work and watching over you.
