Read- Matthew 15:3-11; James 1:26
There are so many verses in the bible concerning the use of “our words”. Words affect not only how we think, but the thinking of others. For example, if I tell you “Do NOT think about the Statue of Liberty” what automatically comes to mind? Even though I told you NOT to think about it, just by me saying it, you thought about it. We need to be careful of the words we choose (Proverbs 10:19). Do you want to support and uplift others, or do you want to bring them down? We need to watch the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). “When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.” (Proverbs 10:19). We want to lift others up not only by our actions but by our words as well (Proverbs 17:28). So much for that childhood saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” Words do hurt and affect others. Sometimes in serious mental ways that can have long lasting effects, especially on children. Trust me, I know!! God loves Ya;)
