Matthew 5:3
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven” Matthew 5:3. If you are anything like me, right now you’re wondering what in the world it means to be poor in spirit. If you just hear “poor in spirit” out of context, it sounds like a negative thing and that you would want to have a rich spirit. Jesus, however, uses this as a way to describe true faith in God. He is saying that by being poor in spirit you are the opposite of self-sufficient. You would be completely reliant on an outside source, God. When we realize that we are lost and that our spirit is completely bankrupt without God, we can become completely reliant on him, exhibiting true faith. – Lauren Taylor
